How to play

Welcome to Snake: Words! Classic Snake has developed a taste for wordplay. Steer with the buttons on the left and collect letters. Each letter temporarily adds a body segment, and the longer your snake gets, the faster it moves. Once the letters you’ve collected form a word, you can tap Clear to score one point per letter. Your final score is the total number of letters cleared. Clearing a word also trims your snake by the word’s length minus one, so longer words give you more points and more room to manoeuvre. The edges wrap around; your own body doesn’t. Happy word hunting—let’s see how high you can score!

Choose English, French, Spanish, or German under Dictionary language on the home screen. Your dictionary choice is separate from the interface language in Settings.

1. Which word can I clear, and what happens to my snake?

Letters stay in the order you collect them. The game highlights the longest word in your chosen dictionary that ends at the last letter. No skipping or shuffling allowed!

Clear a six-letter word and you score 6 points while your snake sheds 5 segments. Any earlier letters stay in place, and the game immediately checks what remains for another word.

If no word is found at the end of your collected letters, you can clear the last letter for 1 point. This won’t shorten the snake.

2. None of these letters are helping. Can I get new ones?

Tap Refresh to spend a refresh token and reroll the letters on the map. Their positions stay the same, and neither your collected letters nor any power-up on the map is affected.

You begin each round with 3 tokens and can pick up more. Letters don’t refresh on a timer, and a reroll can bring back some familiar faces.

3. What do the power-ups do?

Keep an eye on Next Special, then steer into a power-up to collect it:

  • Refresh Token: Gives you one extra refresh to use whenever you need it.
  • Freeze: Stops your snake immediately for 5 seconds. You can still clear words and refresh the map—take a moment to think.
  • Slow: Halves your speed immediately for 10 seconds. A little less panic at the next corner.

Power-ups don’t add letters, length or points. Freeze and Slow activate as soon as you eat them, with the time remaining shown on your snake. Pausing the game pauses those timers too.

4. Fancy the old-school handheld look?

Go to Settings → Game theme → Classic for a dot-matrix LCD and chunky retro buttons. You can switch back to Modern whenever you like.

Same game, same records. Different decade.
